The School of Skill Education (SSE) was set up by TISS in December 2011 to impart skill education to millions of youth in India. It trains students in core industry-relevant job competencies through market-oriented skill educational programmes with the vision to create sustainable sources of income, better employability, better livelihoods, and contribute to the economy.

SVE stands for School of Vocational Education, the earlier name of what is now called the School of Skill Education (SSE) at TISS. The portal sve.tiss.edu is the official web platform for SSE programmes and admissions.

The core vision of SSE is to help young people develop skills and gain sustainable incomes by training them in key industrial job competencies that enable them to find better jobs, live better lives, and ultimately contribute to the economic growth of the nation.

TISS SSE offers one-of-a-kind industry-academia blended, work-integrated skill training programmes that prioritise job-specific skill development over traditional broad-based education. The curriculum integrates 40% classroom learning and 60% practical skill training (OJT) on real industry shop floors, which is being implemented for the first time in India at this scale.

The main campus of TISS is at V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai – 400088. TISS is a multi-campus institution with campuses in Mumbai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Tuljapur.

SSE programmes span multiple industry sectors called 'verticals', including: Agriculture, Automotive, Banking/Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI), Capital Goods, Education, Electronics, Food Processing, Healthcare, IT-Enabled Services, Logistics, Management & Entrepreneurship, Media & Entertainment, Power, Retail, and Tourism & Hospitality.

In the academic year 2025-26, the School of Skill Education offers 24 Bachelor Programmes, 3 Diploma Programmes, 8 Post Graduate Diploma Programmes, and 3 Short-term Skill Enhancement Programmes (StSEPs) in the fields of counselling and healthcare, conforming to UGC guidelines.

SSE offers four types of programmes: (1) Bachelor Programmes (3-year full-time degree), (2) Diploma Programmes (standalone), (3) Post Graduate Diploma Programmes, and (4) Short-term Skill Enhancement Programmes (StSEPs) focused on counselling and healthcare.

Yes. Healthcare Skill Sector programmes offered by the School of Skill Education, TISS are recognised by the Maharashtra Paramedical Council as per the scheduled Act. More information is available at www.maharashtraparamedicalcouncil.org.

SSE offers Bachelor programmes in areas such as: Hotel Management (Golden Threshold Programme – with Taj), Retail Management (with Zudio), B.Design in Visual Communication/Animation, B.Design in Fashion Design, BBA in Media & Communication, BA in Acting, and many more across sectors like Automotive, Healthcare, IT, Banking, and Logistics.

SSE offers 8 Post Graduate Diploma Programmes (as of 2025-26). These are one-year programmes of 40 credits divided into two semesters of 20 credits each, aligned to NSQF/NCrF level 6 (for 3-year degree holders) or level 6.5 (for 4-year degree holders).

StSEPs are short-duration programmes in the fields of counselling and healthcare. These are designed to provide focused skill enhancement and are aligned to UGC guidelines.
