TISS's initiative in skill education in Dharashiv

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), School of Skill Education (SSE), is making a meaningful impact on the agri-food system and farming communities in the ambitious district, Dharashiv, through its Bachelor in Agriculture degree. The programme is designed to include both taught classes and skill development components. It provides extensive practical and skill training with regular industry visits. So that students can be trained to join the agri-industry or become entrepreneurs. The programme is complemented by interaction with experts, scientific demonstrations and exposure visits. Indeed, students gain a broader understanding of local knowledge systems, sustainable agri-food farming and rural livelihood practices. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tuljapur and is contributing to strengthening practical farming skills, skilling the rural youth workforce and promoting sustainable agri-food systems. Local farmers share their experiences that the programme is bridging the gap between academic knowledge in agriculture and the reality on the ground. Dharashiv is trying to adopt sustainable farming practices in the face of increasing climate challenges.
